Dollars at Work

The Enbridge® Ride to Conquer Cancer® supports The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre – one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.

Your contribution to the Enbridge® Ride to Conquer Cancer® has helped raised over $220.3 million for Princess Margaret Cancer Centre since 2008. People like you from four provinces make The Ride Canada’s largest cycling fundraiser and peer-to-peer fundraising event.

These vital funds support personalized cancer medicine, research, treatment advances, education and new standards of care at The Princess Margaret – in Ontario and around the world.

Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is home to the largest clinical trials program in the country and is transforming Cancer Care for all Canadians. Its radiation medicine program is the largest under one roof in the world, and its surgical oncology program is the largest in the country.

As global leaders in cancer care, The Princess Margaret has the expertise to treat over 200 types of cancers including the rarest forms of the disease.

Personalized Cancer Medicine is a multi-faceted, integrated approach to cancer care that focuses on the unique nature of each patient. Because every patient is different, so is every patient’s cancer.

Funds raised through The Ride give Princess Margaret Cancer Centre scientists and research clinicians the opportunity to better understand the individual nature of each cancer and each patient. This is leading to more effective, targeted and less toxic patient treatments.
The funds you raise in The Ride are allocated to four main areas of Personalized Cancer Medicine:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Phasellus consequat orci ultricies sapien placerat, nec gravida nibh volutpat. Donec eu nulla arcu. Ut ultrices in turpis fermentum suscipit. Etiam venenatis justo ac luctus dapibus. Proin lorem ligula, luctus sed venenatis id, interdum commodo est.

Detecting cancers early leads to better outcomes. The Princess Margaret is working to develop new Molecular Imaging Technology that can see tiny cancers. They are also making advances with Biomarkers, indicators of cancer that can be detected through blood and serum tests.

The Princess Margaret is testing new equipment and procedures which help determine the specific genetic mutation of a patient. This information helps doctors and researchers recommend the optimal combination of drug and other therapies to treat the patient.

Researchers, scientists and doctors at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre are developing ways to make surgery, radiation and drug treatments more targeted to the cells with cancer.  This approach will leave healthy tissue intact, minimizing side effects. New treatments such as Immune Therapy will help lead to better survival rates.

Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is working on programs and strategies to help patients living with cancer and their families to cope with the emotional and physical effects of cancer treatment. The award-winning survivorship, patient education and psychosocial support programs help reduce stress and improve the overall patient experience.

Net proceeds from the Enbridge® Ride to Conquer Cancer® will benefit The Princess Margaret, a leader in the fight against cancer and the largest institution in Canada exclusively devoted to cancer treatment, research and education. The funds you raise will support The Princess Margaret’s vision of Personalized Cancer Medicine, a multi-faceted, integrated approach to cancer care that focuses on the unique nature of each patient: “Finding the right treatment for the right patient at the right time.” Leading scientists like Dr. Brad Wouters, Dr. Neil Fleshner and Dr. Fei-Fei Liu will put your fundraising dollars to immediate use in the conquest of cancer.

Funding will go towards high content clinical trials, such as the world-class tumour bank, an advanced molecular profiling laboratory and a drug development program. This will revolutionize cancer care for all cancers by providing “the right treatment for the right patient at the right time.”

Nearly 1 in 2 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer. That is a staggering and frightening statistic. As we celebrated the 12th year of The Ride, we were reminded of the thousands of people, who just like you, got on their bike, trained, and fundraised, to ride in support of Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

The funds you have helped to raise have allowed The Princess Margaret to become one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. Many of our world-leading researchers are making the impossible possible, thanks to the tremendous philanthropic support that comes from our Riders, donors, volunteers and supporters.

At The Princess Margaret, we never settle. We are always pushing the envelope. We don’t just invent technology. We build the facilities and the processes needed to impact every aspect of cancer care. This has allowed us to explore completely personalized approaches where we take images of the patient just before treatment, design the plan for them, and treat them in ways we could never have achieved before.

We are also continuously adopting new methods, including the power of machine learning and artificial intelligence, to deliver precision medicine.

In 2020, the Enbridge® Ride to Conquer Cancer® will take place on June 13 and 14. This EPIC 200+ kilometres two-day bike ride, between Toronto and Niagara Falls, takes you through some of Ontario’s most picturesque countryside. All you need is a bike, helmet, and willingness to help us accomplish our vision, to Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime.

Veteran Riders, I challenge you to keep riding. You know the impact you have made. Our battle is not over yet. First time Riders, get ready for the Ride of your life. The discipline, inspiration and passion is unlike anything you will ever experience.

The Princess Margaret is transforming cancer care for Canadians thanks to advances in technology, fueled by the innovation of our cancer experts and the generosity of our community.

Join the movement, ride with us!
