Crew and Volunteer
Want to make a difference and use your expertise to help others? When you register as a Crew Member on The Ride, you will be executing Canada’s largest cycling fundraiser event and will be rewarded in ways that you’ve never imagined.
Before registering as a Crew Member, it is important to know that the hours can be long, things can change at the last minute and some teams are physically demanding. As a Crew Member, you’ll attend the entire event in a service capacity, but you will not participate in The Ride itself.
Crew Members receive the same support and fundraising advice as Riders. Crew Members should always feel free to call our Ride Guides at  699-BIKE  for fundraising support. As a Crew Member, you are not required to fundraise, but you are strongly encouraged to reach a $500 goal so that more funds can be invested into cancer research.
Crew Members are the foundation of The Ride, and we work hard to make sure you have all the support you need.
You must be at least 16 years old to be a Crew Member.
Volunteers contribute their time, skills and creativity to bring The Ride to life. Volunteers help us to produce the powerful Opening Ceremonies in Toronto, build our Main Campsite in Hamilton and manage the busy Finish Line in Niagara Falls. Volunteering is a great way to make a difference, whether you are a registered participant or not.
There are many different opportunities on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday to volunteer as an individual or as a group and we look forward to working with you to find a good fit.
The Ride is not just for cyclists — it’s for the entire community. Can’t ride the 200+ kilometers? Join one of our Crew teams and make a different kind of impact.
You’ll join us for the full weekend and experience the production side of Canada’s largest cycling fundraiser event. As crew, you too will get to join in on the celebrations at camp in Hamilton and at the finish line in Niagara Falls. All your meals are included for the weekend as well as transportation back to Toronto.
In order for us to support you to work and travel with us for two days, there is a $25 fee to help us cover the cost of these amenities. There are many teams to choose from and whichever one you pick, you’ll be the heart of our event, creating a life changing experience for everyone involved.

YOUR CREW COACH
Your Crew Coach is your leader and will be there to inform you, guide you and share in this experience with you. We give all Crew members a goal of $500 and encourage everyone to do the best they can to help us raise record funds. Since 2008, The Ride has raised over $194 million dollars towards cancer research and we won’t stop there. My friends and family are riding as part of a team. Can I still be a part of that team as a Crew member?
Definitely! Your fundraising can be added to a Rider team total and you can join them at camp for the festivities. Just make sure you let your Crew Coach and Team Captain know so they can schedule your shift accordingly.
How old must I be to join Crew?
You have to be 16 years old or older to join our Crew teams. Anyone between ages 16 to 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in the same role and area during the event weekend.
Do you accept groups?
Absolutely. We encourage groups of friends, classmates and colleagues to join us for an incredible experience. Whether you’re looking for a team building opportunity or a chance to give back to the community, we’ve got it all.
Do you provide food for crew?
We provide breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks both Saturday and Sunday for our Crew members. Alternatively, we also provide a vegetarian/gluten free option. Please note however that for all other allergies or preferences to please bring your own lunch and snacks.
How many volunteer hours am I credited with?
Crew members are credited with 40 volunteer hours for the full two day commitment.
Do I have to fundraise as a crew member?
Crew members get all the same support as the Riders so we encourage all our Crew to help us raise funds. It’s easier than you think and you never know who has been touched by cancer and may want to contribute to your efforts.
Do you provide camping accommodations for crew?
We have tents already set up for Crew joining us at Main Camp in Hamilton. Drop off your overnight gear with us on Saturday morning and we’ll make sure it’s waiting for you at Camp when you arrive.
Do I need to drive myself or have access to a car?
We take care of your transportation on event, from the start line to camp on Saturday and from the finish in Niagara Falls back to Toronto. As long as you can meet us at the start line, we’ve got you covered from there.
I would like to bring my own vehicle to help offset the event costs. How does this work?
Many Crew choose to bring their own vehicles on event to help offset costs. If you are on a Road Team and you decide to bring a personally owned vehicle, please keep your gas receipts for Saturday and Sunday so we can reimburse you.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES?
- Camp Volunteers: Meet us in Hamilton on Friday, Saturday or Sunday to help us build the Main Campground for the overnight stay. We’ll set up and take down sleeping tents, tables, chairs, and more over the course of the event weekend.
- Friday Event Volunteers: Join us on event the day before to help with opening ceremonies set-up, bike parking and more.
- Saturday Event Volunteers: Come out on Day 1 of the event weekend to help with Rider check in, water stations, tear down and more.
- Finish Line Volunteers: Join us downtown on Day 2 to help us welcome back all Riders, while unloading bags and bikes from Niagara Falls
- Sunday Afternoon/Evening Volunteers: Join us on Day 2 downtown and help us welcome back all the riders, unload bags and bikes from Niagara Falls.
WHO IS MY VOLUNTEER COACH?
Your Volunteer Coach is your cheerleader and main information resource. They are there to communicate event details and listen to your feedback and questions whole helping you on your journey. As the event date approaches, you will have a Team Captain to help support you through the experience but feel free to reach out to your Volunteer Coach any time at email@example.com or call  628-4711.
What is the difference between Crew and volunteer?
Crew members commit to helping us out all day Saturday and all day Sunday for the full duration of the event and travel along with us from Toronto to Niagara Falls. Because of this large commitment, Crew members pay a registration fee to secure their meals for two days, a tent at Camp for the overnight stay and transportation back from Niagara Falls.
Will I get my meals provided as a volunteer?
Since volunteers commit to short shifts, we provide hydration and snacks for all event volunteers. If you are available to commit to supporting us for the full two day weekend, we encourage you to register as Crew to join us for both days of the event. Register here
Do you offer volunteers a letter confirming hours?
If you require a letter of volunteer hours, please let your Volunteer Coach know in advance. We can email you a letter post event, or sign off in person if you can bring forms with you. Crew members receive an automatic 40 hours and volunteer hours are based on the hours worked.
Can I help fundraise as a volunteer?
