NEARLY $56 MILLION OVER 10 YEARS – Quebec’s largest multi-day cycling fundraiser draws 1,308 riders in 10th annual event.

MONTREAL, July 7, 2018 – This weekend marked the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer’s 10th anniversary. Today, the Jewish General Hospital Foundation today announced that this year’s event’s 1,308 riders raised over $4.8 million. The riders started their 200-km ride from Repentigny near Montreal on Saturday July 7 and arrived in St. Augustin de Desmaures on Sunday, July 8.

Over the past 10 years, the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer has raised nearly $56 million benefiting the Jewish General Hospital’s Segal Cancer Centre and its partners across Quebec. The funds are essential to providing support for vital cancer research, treatment, care and prevention. The Ride is Quebec’s largest multi-day cycling fundraiser and is Canada’s largest peer-to-peer fundraising event. Across Canada the event has raised over $400 million since 2008.

“This weekend we celebrate 10 epic years of commitment and passion. Over the last decade 15,351 participants have cycled with us in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. These numbers are impressive and clearly, so are the results. On behalf of the JGH Foundation, thank you to each participant, volunteer, crew member, donor and sponsor.  You are the ones who fuel the life-changing outcomes made possible by the Ride,” said Myer Bick, President and CEO of the Jewish General Hospital Foundation.

“Funds raised through the Ride support our world-leading doctors, researchers and scientists. They, in turn, develop new technologies in the areas of molecular diagnostics, functional imaging, biomarkers, molecular target discovery and validation, and advance targeted radiation therapy. The Jewish General Hospital is a trailblazer in Quebec when it comes to its focused and comprehensive approach to fighting cancer. Thanks to Ride funding we are able to put in place the most promising cancer research programs and treatments. We are making great strides towards conquering cancer,” added Bicks.

“My brother passed away in 2017 shorty after receiving a brain cancer diagnosis. Only a few months later after losing him, I learned my other brother was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was surreal. I could not help but feel discouraged, seeing how cancer had stricken the two strongest men. I felt helpless. There was nothing I could do – or so I believed in that moment,” said Michel Houle, first-year participant from Laval, QC.

“Soon after, I was able to get myself together and that is when I decided I had to do something that would allow me to remain hopeful and be strong for my brother. That is when I made the decision to join the Ride. I didn’t look back and focused on my training. I am so proud to have been able to fundraise almost double my initial goal in only a few short months. In the Ride’s 10th year, I am riding for the first time. I am riding to honour my late brother and keep my other brother’s hope alive while he deals with his cancer. I dream that one day he and I will do the Ride together!” concluded Houle.

Since 2011, Enbridge has been the title sponsor of the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Over 2,500 Enbridge employees, their friends and families have raised almost $8.8 million for the Ride across Canada.

“We are proud of our role as title sponsor for the Ride to Conquer Cancer. We’re committed to supporting the life-changing work taking place at the Jewish General Hospital, and are pleased to announce that we’ve renewed our sponsorship agreement for the Ride. Congratulations to everyone involved in the success of the Ride’s 10th anniversary, here in Quebec,” said Scott Dodd, Team Captain and Director of Business Development at Enbridge Gas Distribution.

“As avid supporters of the cause and members of the community, we are committed to conquering cancer. Our employees, family and friends take on the 200-kilometre challenge throughout Québec because we all know someone who has been affected by cancer. We hope others will become a part of this unstoppable community in 2019,” added Dodd.

Organizers released the dates for the 2019 edition. They encourage people of all athletic abilities to set aside July 6 and 7 to experience the 11th annual Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. For more details visit or call 1-866-996-8356.
