CALGARY, August 12 2017 – The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer presented by Evraz announced more than 1,500 riders helped raise $6.7 million for the Alberta Cancer Foundation as the ninth annual Ride commenced in Alberta on Saturday. Funds raised through the province’s largest cycling fundraiser enable the Alberta Cancer Foundation to support breakthrough cancer research, clinical trials, enhanced care and the discovery of new cancer therapies at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Cross Cancer Institute and 15 other centres across Alberta.

“Every day, 43 Albertans hear the words ‘you have cancer,’ but this community of riders, volunteers, crew members, donors, sponsors are committed to making life better for Albertans facing cancer. Thank you for making the ninth annual Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer an extraordinary success,” said Myka Osinchuk, CEO of the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

“The $6.7 million raised this year will positively impact Albertans living with cancer. These generous contributions support breakthrough research, clinical trials and enhanced care programs. They will also allow Alberta to continue to be a national leader in clinical trials, patients to have access to promising new treatments and the Alberta Cancer Foundation to invest in cancer prevention and screening across the province,” Osinchuk added.

In nine years, the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer raised over $66 million for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. The annual event draws thousands of participants and brings together communities of cancer survivors, cyclists and supporters who train and fundraise for months in order to participate in the two-day, 200-kilometre Ride throughout Alberta.  “When I was diagnosed with cancer, I knew what the journey ahead of me would involve. Despite my worries, the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre have made me feel reassured, supported and comfortable. I am a living example of how funds raised through the Ride are keeping patients like me alive. I’m gearing up for the challenge because it’s my turn to give back and give thanks,” Aitken added.

Alberta’s largest cycling fundraiser draws 1,803 Riders in 10th annual event, cycling over 200 kilometres in two days and supporting breakthrough cancer research and care at the Alberta Cancer Foundation and 15 other centers across Alberta.

CALGARY, August 18 2018– The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer presented by Evraz announced 1,803 riders helped raise $8.21 million for the Alberta Cancer Foundation as the 10th annual Ride commenced in Alberta on Saturday. In 10 years, the Alberta Ride has raised over $75 million to support breakthrough cancer research, clinical trials, enhanced care and the discovery of new cancer therapies at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Cross Cancer Institute and 15 other centres across Alberta. The Alberta Ride is the province’s largest cycling fundraising and Canada’s largest peer-to-peer fundraising event.

Throughout the last decade, 17,633 participants have cycled with us in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer and today we honour 10 years of individuals making life better for Albertans facing cancer,” said George Andrews, President and CEO of the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

“We are humbled by this community of riders, volunteers, crew members, donors and partners who are so committed to changing the way we treat cancer and so grateful for everyone’s support over the last decade. Dollars raised will continue to allow Alberta to be a national leader in clinical trials, patients to have access to promising new treatments and the Alberta Cancer Foundation to invest in cancer prevention and screening across the province,” added Andrews.

The annual event draws thousands of participants and brings together communities of cancer survivors, cyclists and supporters who train and fundraise for months in order to participate in the two-day, 200-kilometre Ride throughout Alberta. With events also in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia, the Ride event series has raised over $404 million for cancer research, treatment, education and care programs across the country since 2008 and is Canada’s largest peer-to-peer fundraiser.

“In February of 2011,  just three days after the birth of my daughter, I was diagnosed with Stage IIIA Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. That day changed my life, and the life of my family’s, forever,” said Kyla McMullin, third year participant from Calgary, Alberta.

“It was a difficult experience filled with ups and evidently many downs, but with the support of family and friends, I got through the battle. In 2016, I was compelled to give back to the cause and decided to join the Ride, which is one of my best decisions. We all have our personal journey and motivation to join the Ride but what we all have in common is the desire to make a difference in the life of others. I received an incomparable care at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and because of the effort of others, I get to participate in this 10th edition of the Ride with the support of husband and my two lovely daughters,” added McMullin.

Since 2011, Enbridge has been the title sponsor of the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Collectively, 2,008 Enbridge employees, their friends and their families have raised over $9.4 million for the Ride across Canada. Sponsorship funds donated by Enbridge allow dollars raised by Ride participants to support cancer programs at the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Team Enbridge is proud to be amongst a dedicated rider community, who in ten years have made great impacts for Albertans facing cancer. The disease has touched us all and our loved ones face cancer diagnoses every day. We must continue to ride and raise crucial funds to keep up the momentum to conquering cancer. Enbridge has renewed our partnership in 2019 and are committed to continue to support the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s vision of a cancer free future,” said Vern Yu, Executive Vice President & Chief Development Officer of Enbridge.
